In September, the Costa Smeralda and its ‘capital’ Porto Cervo are home to the most significant boats and crews in the world who compete in ferocious competitions between the coastlines of Caprera, La Maddalena, Baja Sardinia and Porto Cervo. It starts with the Perini Navi Cup from the 2nd to the 5th of September and which in its sixth year will see a fleet of impressive luxury yachts competing along a range of coastal routes in the waters of the La Maddalena Archipelago. This is followed by the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup & Rolex Maxi 72 World Championship, an unmissable event since 1980 when the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda established the first championship for the largest sailing boats of the time. The event, which takes place from September 6th to 12th is one of the most anticipated by both ship-owners and competing crews and regularly attracts over 40 maxi yachts. From September 18th to 20th the appointment is with the Sailing Champions League, which has chosen Sardinia as the location for this important event for the first time and which promises a thrilling final that will be attended by crews from all over Europe.
